Hello peeps,
In this here post, I shall be telling you all about the new Linux Distro I recently migrated to. As you well know, I have been using Linux for a short while now, few months, and have been on Mint 20 on my HTPC and Data Storage, but on main monster have been on Manjaro KDE as the chosen daily driver. For more on that check out my previous post –> Here
That said, recently due to an issue with an upgrade that Manjaro team have released they decided to do something kinda drastic for a lot of users of the platform, and that is, they decided to render legacy nVidia drivers obsolete which caused havoc among the community. Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t affected as much as others, still it broke many systems that were using old cards..
Anyway, we are not here to talk about that, suffice it to say that I needed to find yet another Distro I can customize and make my own, without having to start from scratch. So Distro hopping began anew.. But it didn’t take too long this time around as I had a much clearer idea of what I wanted. An Arch based Distro with KDE on top and pre-included tweaks and tools.
Long story short, I only tested 3, all were good in their own way, but all I can say is one had a toxic support community, which wasn’t very helpful in helping me solve the few minor issues I encountered post-install, and the other was just too plain and required way more work than I was willing to put into getting it just right as I was relatively new to the Linux world.

Hurry it up, you must be thinking by now, enough with the lengthy intro, what Distro is it already ? Well, OK then, I will spit it out, the Distro I have landed on, and the one that could very well be the one I stick with for a while, at least until something happens that could render it unusable, fingers crossed that doesn’t happen, is… Drum roll please… HefftorLinux Plasma edition as I am a Plasma guy through n through 😀

- Description :
HefftorLinux is designed with style and stability in mind. They have a number of different desktop versions available for download but their #1 desktop is currently XFCE. It looks beautiful out of the box. It uses the Calamares installer and gives the user a lot of control over which kernels and additional packages a user might want during the installation.
Why HefftorLinux you might ask ? Well, very simple, it’s exactly what I needed. Just as Manjaro was when I decided to use it and better even. If you didn’t know it, Hefftor is a spinoff of ArcoLinux which is based on Arch but with a spin. Video below shall explain it.
Now that you have a better idea of base used in HefftorLinux you would clearly understand why I chose it. It has way more tweaks than Arco does, and is overall more stable and up to date. Arco is released once every 6 months or so and uses their own repos, whereas Hefftor mainly uses Arch repos as well as their own, which makes it more up to date…
Plus they kept the Arco Tweaks Tool so we can tweak Hefftor to our liking. Also what made me even more happy is the fact the the project was backed by an amazing support community that welcomed me with open arms, and have helped get it up and running flawlessly in no time at all..
Another thing, Hefftor is available in many flavors, Plasma, Xfce, Gnome, Hlwm, and Bspwm.. There’s a flavor for everyone.. Below are reviews of Xfce and Plasma editions by our good friend and crazy Distro Hopper Tyler from Tyler’s Tech..
As you can see from videos above, that Distro is sexy AF, has tons of stuff to choose from during installation, and more, it’s got it all.. Oh and did I mention it’s stable too ? So far I have had no major issues to speak of. And being an nVidia user I haven’t had the usual craziness that plagues that GPU line. Am happy to report that this is as of now my Distro of choice for the foreseeable future.. If you like it too hit button below to get teleported to their page where you can down the flavor that suits your fancy…Â And happy Hefftoring..
