Hey fellow Linux buffs,
Welcome to yet another Linux article. In this one I will be talking about a new way of building and installing Arch Linux with Calamares using a tool or rather a method called ALCI which stands for Arch Linux Calamares ISO. This was created by the ArcoLinux team. Mainly Erik Dubois one of the lead developer there.
What’s so awesome about this method, is well, the fact that not only can you build your own Arch Linux ISO, but you can decide what packages you want to include within it so you are ready to go within minutes instead of having to install everything later which takes way more time. You have the freedom of choice, what to add or remove. Make it your own.
Below is a video I made showing steps from build to install and later how easy it is to get up and running, 2nd video is almost real-time, I just removed a couple of mistakes.
As you can see from videos, it’s super easy. I know at first for the non-initiated could be overwhelming, but trust me it’s easier than it looks and so much worth it. It’s all about freedom of choice.. Tinker and tinker some more, I absolutely love it it has become the go to way of getting Arch Linux installed on my systems.
Below I will include the full playlist for ALCI made by the creator so you can learn and start building your own Arch Linux ISO. Have fun and share your creations !!!!
One last thing, you see that packages file you created, well, you can share it with friends who want to build but not go through the hassle of creating his own file.. Or you can create one for him according to his likes.. All it takes is a couple of commands and you on your way..
Sound off in the comments your thoughts about this great project.
